Sree Siddaganga Education Society was founded by His Holiness Dr. Sree Sree Shivakumara Swamigalu, in the year 1963. Poojya Swamiji is the head of Sree Siddaganga Matt, an age old socio-religious institution of Veerashaiva Dharma. Trividha Dasohi' i.e., providing knowledge, education, food and shelter to the poor and needy irrespective of religion, caste or creed has been the hallmark of the math.
Sree Siddaganga Mutt at present has 9000 plus poor children and orphans, studying in various classes. The inmates are provided with food, accommodation and education free of cost. In addition Siddaganga Matt has a large number of primary schools, high schools and colleges which are spread mostly in the moffusil parts of Karnataka. As there was increased demand from rural people to open schools and colleges, Swamiji founded Sree Siddaganga Education Society. Today it has 127 institutions, spread all over Karnataka State. It runs a residential school for nearly 75 blind children at the Mutt campus. For all the students of the Mutt, prayer and pravachana are a daily routine. It is providing education to 45,000 students annually and has over 2500 employees.
Sri Siddagnaga College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women which came into being in 1982, is popular for its good, effective teaching - learning processes and its central location in the town. The Sree Siddaganga Womens College is located in the heart of the city and its proximity to both - the City Railway Station and the Bus Stand has helped the girl students even from remote places to realize their dream of Empowerment through Higher Education.
There are, at present 1800 students pursuing diverse courses ranging from English Literature to Biotechnology and Business Studies. Nearly 1,000 students are commuting from far and near villages of neighboring talukas and districts. The phenomenal rise in the strength of students in a short span of 20 years is a testimony to the vision of His Holiness, the caliber of the teaching staff and the reputation of the institution in Karnataka.
